The warning, published at safetravel.is, a website run by ICE-SAR to assist travellers in planning their visit to Iceland, and on the Facebook page of Safetravel.is

The reason for the closure is that visitors and guides had noticed large pieces of ice falling at Seljalandsfoss, making it extremely dangerous to venture too close to the cliffs, and particularly dangerous to walk behind the waterfall. The fine mist from the waterfall freezes on the cliffs and the ceiling of the path behind the waterfall, but when the weather warms and the ice begins to thaw, it can fall of in large chunks which can be dangerous.

People are advised to show caution and respect the closure of the paths.
