Laufey Helgadóttir, who owns Hótel Smyrlabjörg, located 30 kilometres (18 miles) from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon in South Iceland, has already begun taking reservations for next summer and, in some cases, for the summer of 2017.

The construction of new hotels and guesthouses all over Iceland has made it easier to meet demand, before that, Laufey says, it was impossible to find vacancies during the high season.
Travellers have also started to visit the country outside the summer months – most who visit during the winter are on the hunt for the spectacular Aurora Borealis and winter adventure.
