An untidy and thieving traveller spent the night in Flatey church, reports local news website BB.is, leaving the house of worship in a state of disarray. The church was built in 1926 and is located on the small island Flatey, West Iceland.
According to BB.is, the traveller not only left quite the mess but also cracked open the church collection box and stole what money was inside.
This is the second report of travellers spending the night inside Icelandic country churches, a Canadian couple was kindly asked to leave Reykhólar church in May after locals discovered they had camped out inside the building.
With this fast becoming a trend, perhaps the Church of Iceland (Þjóðkirkjan) should consider developing a new B&B project which allows travellers to spend the night in a church.
