Police stopped a foreign traveller going nearly twice the alloowed speed limit on the highway between Reykjavík and Keflavík. When Police stopped the traveller, who was driving a rental BMW, he was going 175 kmh (108 mph). The speed limit on the road between Keflavík and Reykjavík is 90 kmh (56 mph).

The traveller told officers that he was in a huge hurry as he was late for a flight. He was fined 140,000 ISK (1,400 USD/1,140 EUR), which he paid on the spot. By paing the fine on the spot he got a 20,000 ISK (200 USD/160 EUR) discount.
