A Yellow Weather Warning has been issued for tomorrow, Friday, advising travelers to expect severe gale and storm, with dangerous localized winds. A deep low pressure system will make landfall early morning tomorrow, and pass over Iceland, bringing strong winds which can be hazardous to drivers. The storm is expected to have passed over the island by early Saturday morning.

Travelers should under no circumstances embark upon hikes in mountains inland: Most all major roads in the Central Highlands are closed and impassable, and the Icelandic Meteorological Office is warning of a blizzard with gale force winds in the Central Highlands tomorrow. Travel in these conditions is dangerous.
Hazardous winds
At 7-8 am on the morning of Friday the wind will begin to pick up, first in the Westfjords and the area around Breiðafjörður bay in West Iceland, as well as the Central Highlands, then in North Iceland and South-East Iceland, including the area around Vík and between Vík and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.
The IMO warns of a southwesterly gale and severe gale with sustained wind speeds of 15-23 m/s (33-51 mph) and localized winds and wind gusts which are expected to reach 35-40 m/s (78-90 mph), especially close to steep mountain sides. Winds of these strength can blow vehicles which are susceptible to wind off the road, or cause drivers to lose control.
