The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has issued a travel warning for a two stretches of road in the East Fjords. Motorists are advised to show caution when driving the road connecting the villages of Breiðdalsvík and Stöðvarfjörður, as the road has been hit with rock slides from the screes in the mountain Súlur on the tip of the peninsula between the Stöðvarfjörður fjord and Breiðdalsvík bay.
The old Ring Road crosses the steep Hvalnesskriður and Kambaskriður screes as it circles the peninsula separating the two small fjords. Rock slides are quite common in the steep screes of the mountains in the East fjords.
Most of the ring road is clear of both ice and snow, although drivers are warned that patches of ice on the ring road crossing Holtavörðuheiði heath, connecting West and North Iceland.
