The number of passengers at Keflavík Airport in January increased more than twice as fast as at the major airport which saw the second fastest increase, and nearly 8 times the European average.
According to a press release (PDF) from the Airports Council International Europe, the number of passengers at European airports grew on average by 8.9% in January 2016 compared to the year before. The Keflavík saw an 70% increase in the number of passengers in January. The number of passengers who pass through Keflavík in January 2016 was more than double the number which passed through in January 2015.

Keflavík has the fastest growth of all European airports with more than 5 million passengers annually. The second fastest growth was at Kiev Airport in the Ukraine (36.3%).
