Noel Santillan became an instant celebrity when he managed to end up in a small fishing town in North Iceland while searching for a downtown Reykjavík hotel. This adventure, which was most likely caused by a tiny misspelling when Noel entered the address of the hotel into the GPS equipment in his car, followed by his excessive reliance on the instructions given the equipment, was covered by both Icelandic and international media, even making the pages of the New York Times as well as being covered by the BBC.

Santillan was not done, however, as he continued his tradition of getting lost while travelling in Iceland by managing to get lost while searching for the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s most popular tourist destination. Again it was the GPS equipment which led the 28 year old American astray. Instead of directing Santelli to the lagoon it sent him to the central offices of the lagoon.

Santillan’s Iceland adventure is probably one he is unlikely to ever forget. In addition to the few days of fame he left Iceland with a nice parting gift from the Avis car rental, where his adventures began. According to the local news site visir.is the staff of Avis decided to give Santillan brand new GPS equipment before he left the country. The manager of the car rental and his staff thought it was a fitting present to Santillan, telling him he should make sure he took the new equipment with him the next time he came to Iceland.

Santillan told visir.is that he had truly enjoyed his adventures in Iceland adding that he was sure to come back when he would get the chance.
