Tourism season stretching into winter: 40% increase in hotel bookings by foreign travellers in October 2151

According to data released by Statistics Iceland the number of hotel bookings in October of 2015 was 30% higher than in 2014. This growth was entirely due to an increase in foreign travellers. At the same time the number of hotel rooms booked by Icelandic residents dropped by 12%, the number of rooms booked by foreign visitors grew by 40%.

According to the same data the number of hotel bookings during the 12 month period from November 2014 to November 2015 was 20% greater than the previous twelve months.

The latest figures on the number of travellers at Keflavík Airport tell a similar story. The local newspaper Mogunblaðið reports that the number of travellers passing through the airport in November 2015 was 26.4% higher than November 2014.
