Tourism makes up a big part of the Icelandic economy and the tourism sector has become a consistent contribution to employment in the country, reports Morgunblaðið.

According to Ólafur Már Sigurðsson, a specialist with Statistics Iceland, the number of people working in tourism and related industry sectors has increased from 2,700 individuals to 2,800 over the past year.

Tourism in Iceland has risen steadily over the past decade and the Icelandic Travel Industry Association, Samtök ferðaþjónustunnar, expects the number of tourists visiting Iceland to increase by 15 percent in 2015. Over the past years, the number has increased by 20 percent annually.
