According to news website Mbl.is, the Reykjavík District Commissioner registered 116 sale contracts last week.
The total worth of property sold in the capital area last week was 7.1 billion ISK and the average value of each property was 61.8 million ISK (443,264 Euros/ 494,439 USD), which is considerably higher than the week before. According to Registers Iceland (Þjóðskrá Íslands), the average price of property sold last week was 50.8 million ISK (364,366 Euros/406,432 USD).

Purchasing property in Iceland is easy for citizens living in member states of the European Economic Area (EEA), who may acquire property rights in Iceland without the permission of the Minister of Justice.  Non-EEA citizens must have domicile in Iceland in order to purchase real property in the country and need the minister’s permission.
