According to Vísir.is three individuals have been charges with trespassing after entering the Holuhraun eruption site. The area north of Vatnajökull glacier has been closed to public since August 18 and is only open to members of the media and scientists.
The trespassers, all Icelandic, entered the area on Friday. Members of the Húsavík Police Department arrested the culprits shortly after and issued a hefty fine.
The eruption continues to be closed to the public as gas emissions in the area remain high and can be life threatening.
