Three small landslides hit the main road leading to town Siglufjörður, North Iceland, last night evening. The road that connects the town to Northwest, West and South Iceland is now closed.
The landslides hit west of Siglufjörður fjord, near Strákagöng tunnel in a similar area where a large avalanche hit last winter.
According to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) there is still a considerable danger of landslides in the mountain above the road and also north of Bjarnafjörður fjord in the Westfjords‘ Strandir region due to heavy rain in the last 24 hours.
No towns or habituated areas should be in danger.
