Thousands have gathered outside Iceland's parliament, Alþingi, in the center of Reykjavík to rally against the deeply unpopular coalition government.

The protesters have a mix of sentiments. Many are against planned public spending cuts in schools and hospitals, other are protesting the coalition's plan of withdrawing Iceland's application to become an EU member, to name just two of the bigger issues.

People are angry and hurt. The government has repeatedly abused basic moral values, says musician Svavar Knútur, one of the demonstration's organizers. He also condemns the general behavior of members of the coalition. When criticized they respond with bad attitude, contempt and bullying.
