Halldóra Hallfreðsdóttir, an Icelandic grandmother, felt for the Iceland team as it trained for the match against France in scorching heat. So much, that the old woman decided to look manager Heimir Hallgrímsson up in the phone book and have him buy the players a refreshing ice cream – her treat.

“I felt so sorry for them, they looked sweaty and hot,” Halldóra told reporter Kolbeinn Tumi Daðason.

She says she was very surprised when Heimir answered the phone on the first ring, as she did not expect to get through straight away. The manager suggested he buy the players ice cream and Halldóra donate the money to the Special Children Travel fund, a joint effort between Icelandair and the carrier’s customers in support of sick children and their families.

Sunday’s match begins at 7 pm local time and Halldóra claims she will be watching and cheering on the team, that she is positive will beat France. “I believe they’ll win the game,” the generous grandmother concludes.
