Þingvellir National Park will begin to charge for parking as of 1st of May, reports the National Broadcasting Service.
There are no entrance fees for Þingvellir, located in Southwest Iceland, but beginning in May, fees will be charged for parking at the park’s three parking lots (by Hakið Visitor Centre, by Valhöll and near the old bridge over Öxará river).
24 hours of parking will cost 500 ISK (3.5 Euros/4 USD) for a mid-size car, 750 ISK (5 Euros/5 USD) for a jeep, and 1500 ISK (10.6 Euros/12 USD) for a 19-passenger mini-bus. According to park ranger Ólafur Örn Haraldsson, the revenue, an estimated 40 million ISK (283,045 Euros/ 319,616 USD) goes to maintenance.
