The Institute of Earth Science (IES) has published this new thermal image showing a lava river in Holuhraun running 14 km (8.7 mi) to the northeast from the volcanic crater. The image was captured yesterday evening (December 18th) at 22.14 (10.14pm).
The volcanic fissure in Holuhraun keeps spewing up big amount of lava. Average flow rate is estimated to be close to 100 cubic meters (3,542 cubic ft.) per second.
