There is no spring, only snow and strong wind, in the weather forecast for this weekend.
According to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) we can expect snow and very strong wind in north and northwest Iceland late Friday evening and Saturday night, or 15 to 23 m/s (54-83 km/h, 34-51 mph). As snowfall is going to be considerable, prepare for challenging travel conditions and possible road closures in the area.
IMO predicts lighter wind in other parts of the country until Saturday evening. Temperatures will be around 0 C (32 F) during the day but will drop to -5 C (23 F) in the capital area and in North Iceland in the evening.
On Sunday: Northwestly winds, near gale and snow showers in the northeast until late noon, but lighter winds and fair weather in other parts. Temperatures from -1 to -6 C (30-21 F). Increasing wind from the south in the afternoon with snow, sleet or rain in the south and west by the evening.
Our photographer Vilhelm Gunnarsson took the following photos on Tuesday this week. As can be seen, winter is in no mood to back down.
