Since November 1st 37 low-pressure areas have hit Iceland, bringing raging winds, massive snow and sleet with ensuing transportation disruptions.

Winter storm number 38 will plough over parts of the country today. The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) has warned travellers that conditions will be bad in South Iceland where a strong gale wind or 20 m/s or more (72 km/h, 45 mph) is expected this evening, with the area of Mýrdalur valley and Eyjafjöll mountains in the firing line, being one of Iceland’s most notorious locations when it comes to extreme weather.

In the last four months rarely more than three days have passed between the storms.
