Those staying on the southwest corner this weekend can rejoice. It will be warm and sunny, even balmy on the Icelandic weather-scale where double figures in degrees Celsius is always a cause for celebration.
For those who are heading northeast however we have one advice: pack warm and waterproof clothes. The temperature will hover around 4-5 C (39-42 F) during the day and the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) expects rain in the area on Sunday and even sleet in the northeast central highlands.
IMO’s forecast
Thursday: Northeasterly or variable wind, 3 to 10 m/s s (11-29 km/h, 7-18 mph) and partly fair in the south but cloudy in other parts and light precipitation in the north and east. Becoming east 8 to 13 m/s (29-47 km/h, 18-29 mph) in the southernmost part in the afternoon with light rain, but moderating again tonight. Elsewhere lighter wind and mostly dry, but afternoon showers in the southwest. Temperature 5 to 16 degrees C (41-61 F), warmest in the southwest but coldest on headlands in the north.
Friday: Similar weather as on Thursday except mainly dry in the south and west.
Saturday: North 5 to 10 m/s (18-36 km/h, 11-18mph). Mostly fair weather in the south, but cloudy and intermittent rain in the north and east. Temperature 3 to 16 C (37-61 F), warmest in the southwest.
Sunday: Northerly wind, 5 to 13 m/s (18-47 km/h, 11-22 mph) and rain in the north and east, elsewhere mainly dry. Temperature 3 to 15 C (37-58 F), warmest in the south.
