The autumn has truly arrived in Iceland. Having been blessed by excellent summer months, warm, dry and sunny, the horizontal rain is returning with a vengeance. Those located on the southwest corner will be spared this weekend, but the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) has, however, issued a warning for the East Iceland, North Iceland and the Strandir region in the Westfjords. Considerable rain is expected in the east during the night and heavy rain in the north part tomorrow with increasing risk of flooding or mudslides.
IMO’s forecast
Easterly wind 5 to 10 m/s (11-22 mph/18-36 kmh) tonight with rain, but considerable rain in the east during the night. Temperature 8 to 15 C (46-59 F), warmest in the northeast
Saturday: Northeast wind and later north 8 to 15 m/s (18-34 mph/29-15 kmh), strongest in the northernmost part. Rain in most places but considerable rain in the north. Lighter wind in the south. Northwesterly wind and less precipitaiton in the east in the afternoon. Temperature 5 to 12 C (41-54 F) tomorrow, mildest in the south.
Sunday: Northwest 5 to 13 m/s, strongest in the north and rain, but mainly dry in the south. Lighter wind and mostly clearing by afternoon, but increasing northeast wind late evening. Temperature 3 to 11 C (37-52 F), mildest in the south.
