The Wall Street Journal recently published an “insiders’ guide to Reykjavík” on their website. Designer Steinunn Sigurðardóttir, chef Hrefna Rósa Sætran, skyr-entrepreneur Sigurður Hilmarsson and artist Ólafur Elíasson shared a few of their favourite spots.

Steinunn recommends the popular Golden Circle tour, which includes a visit to Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir geothermal area. Chef Hrefna Rósa recommends a visit to the Nordic House in Vatnsmýrin moorland in central Reykjavík, which houses exhibitions, a library and a small shop with fun souvenirs.

One of Sigurður’s, or Siggi, suggestions is to drop by Mosfellsbakarí bakery, in the Reykjavík suburb of Mosfellsbær, and stack up on their traditional flatbread, called flatbrauð or flatkökur in Icelandic.

Ólafur Elíasson urges visitors to take a dip in Sundhöll Reykjavíkur, the Art-Deco style Sundhöll swimming pool, which opened in 1939.
