The Supreme Court of Iceland has ruled that the Landowners Association in Reykjahlíð, North Iceland, was not authorised to collect an entrance fee to the area in the summer 2014. Previoulsy the District Court of in Reykjavík had reached the same conclusion but the Landowners Association appealed the ruling.
The landowners collected an entrance fee to the Leirhnjúkur volcano area and the hot springs located east of Námafjall mountain and said that they intended to use the revenue generated by ticket sales to repair the sites and improve tourist facilities.
