So desperate were some for the summer to kick off that the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police asked the Icelandic Met office on Facebook for a spell of prolonged sunshine. The Met Office bluntly refused.
Cloudy conditions are still expected in northern and eastern Iceland though the Icelandic Met Office believes skies will potentially clear in the northwest and possibly in northern Eyjafjörður fjord.
The respite from the clouds and rain appears to be brief, though. Southerly winds are expected to bring rains from Wednesday until the weekend, according to local news site Mbl.is.
