The Ring Road in South Iceland to be closed at 14.00 due to the severe weather 4038

The Police in South Iceland and the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration have decided to close a long stretch of the ring road in South Iceland at 14:00 today, due to severe weather warning. A storm, which is heading up to the south coast of Iceland, is expected to make the road impassable due to extreme winds and snow.

The road will be closed at the bridge over Markarfljót river and Breiðamerkurlón glacial lagoon.

The local news site visir.is also reports that travellers in East Iceland are also warned that severe weather conditions, beginning at 17:00 might make travel hazardous. Extreme caution is advised.

Travellers are advised that there is heavy snow and ice on all roads, everywhere around Iceland.
