The Muslim Association of Iceland has condemned the Paris terrorist attacks, calling them an act of senseless and unprovoked violence, perpetrated upon innocent people.

“The Muslim Association of Iceland, like all muslims around the world, condemn this terrible, unprovoked and bloody attack upon innocent people in Paris on Friday night November 13. We send the families and friends of the victims our condolences and hopes that those wounded recover quickly.”

The announcement, which is published by the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, argues the attacks remind us of the importance of fighting against hatred in all its forms and calls upon all people to uphold the values of the French revolution, freedom, equality and fraternity:

“The values of the French revolution were freedom, equality and fraternity. We must work together to uphold these values, not only in word but also in deed. We cannot allow hatred, wars and terrorism destroy these values for us and our descendants.”

Each life is equally valuable in Islam, the announcement, which is signed by Salmann Tamimi, the chairman of the Muslim Association, argues, and argues we can defeat the threat of terrorism and hatred by “standing together as one nation.”
