The magma dike in the Bárðarbunga volcanic system has now reached the fissure system of the Askja volcanic system and GPS measurements indicate that the area there is greatly affected. The Icelandic Met office reports that shortly before 8 (8am) this morning, there was a slight increase in seismic activity in the Askja volcano as changes in the stress field due to expansion caused by the dyke have an effect on the area.

The length of the dyke under Dyngjujökull outlet, which is a part of the Bárðarbunga volcanic system, has increased by 1-1.5 km (0.6-0.9 mi) to the north, towards Askja in the last 24 hours. That is considerably less than in the days before.
