The Langjökull ice cave formally opened yesterday 2391

The Langjökull ice tunnel, in West Iceland, was formally opened yesterday. Marjolion Bor, a Dutch tourist who was celebrating her 30th birthday yesterday, was among the cave‘s first visitors.

“This is unbelievable. I’ve never experienced anything like it,” she told the National Broadcasting Service. “We’ve hiked and climbed Langjökull glacier before, but never been inside it. This is a new adventure.”

Tour operators offer three trips a day into the tunnel. Guests are picked up at the Húsafell camping site and transported to the cave in specially modified trucks.

The impressive cave runs in a circle and features a chapel, exhibition spaces and a restaurant.
