Yoko Ono's Imagine Peace Tower will be lit between sunset and sunrise on February 18th in honour of Yoko's 82nd birthday.
Imagine Peace Tower is located on Viðey island, just a short sail from Reykjavík. It's an artwork created by Yoko Ono and dedicated to the universal struggle for peace, as embodied by her late husband John Lennon.
There is a special boat trip to the island at 20 (8 pm) on Wednesday from Reykjavík's old downtown harbour. There will be a short ceremony on Viðey. Children choirs will sing John Lennon's song 'Love' and guests can participate in meditation accompanied with Gong sounds. You can book your trip here.
The choirs and the meditation is a part of the first Reykjavik Peace Festival, starting this week.

Imagine Peace Tower consists of a white wishing well with the words ‘Imagine Peace’ carved in 24 different languages. 15 searchlights pour a stream of light up to and into cloud cover and on a clear night, the beams can reach up to 4,000 meters (13.000 ft.) into the sky.
The tower is kept lit every year from October 9, Lennon’s birthday, until 8 December, the date he was shot, as well as on New Year’s day, the first day of spring and other special occasions.
There are daily ferry departures to Viðey island from Skarfabakki pier, Harpa and Ægisgarður pier. See schedule on videy.com
