The Icelandic Met Office, IMO, is set to house new supercomputer owned by the Danish Met Office, reports Vísir.is. The supercomputer will be ten times more powerful than the current system used by the Danish Met Office.
According to Ingvar Kristinsson, IMO’s development manager, the reason behind the partnership is that a lot of electrical power is needed to run the new supercomputer which is cheaper and more environmentally friendly in Iceland.
The new supercomputer will enable more regular updates and the ability to provide more detailed weather information for Iceland and Denmark.
