Earthquake rates in the Bárðarbunga region remain stable according to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO). Around 8 this morning a big earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck close to the caldera. From midnight to 6 (6am) 23 earthquakes were detected.
UPDATE: The centre of the caldera sank 45 cm (18 in) following this morning's big earthquake. Previously the subsidence had reached more than 20 m (65 ft.) which is the largest such event observed in Iceland.
The Holuhraun eruption has somewhat slowed down. There is one lava fountain to speak of and it reaches about 20-50 m (66-164 ft.) over the crater's rims reports IMO. A calmer eruption does not necessarily indicate it's drawing to a end. Scientists say that fluctations are to be expected in the volcanic activity.
