The number of Chinese visitors to Iceland has grown dramatically in recent years. In 2015 more than 48,000 Chinese travellers visited Iceland, which was nearly a doubling since the year before. The local news site turisti.is reports that Chinese travellers made up 3.8% of the total number of foreign visitors in 2015, compared to just 1.1% just five years earlier.

The growth in the number of Chinese visitors continued during the first four months of this year, increasing by 68.6%, compared to the same period the year before. However, while the growth has continued in April and May, the pace of the increase has slowed down dramatically. The number of Chinese travellers in May 2016 was 7.9% compared to May 2015. As a comparison the number of Chinese visitors in May 2015 was 84.1% greater than in May 2014.
