The Free the Nipple campaign that kicked off in Iceland last week is gaining momentum. Yesterday evening more than 1.000 women and men assembled in Laugardalslaug swimming pool in Reykjavík for the second topless dip in the last few days.

The organizers of the grassroot movement prepared special certificates and handed out to participants at the pool. More activism can be expected. The movement has already announced a #Free the Nipple event on June 1st when women intend to sunbathe topless at Austurvöllur, a square in front of Iceland’s parliament in downtown Reykjavík.
Free the nipple is an international equality movement focused upon the double standards regarding the censorship of female breasts and society’s tendency to sexualise the female body. The campaign suddenly went viral in Iceland on Tuesday evening after a high school student was mocked by a young man for having posted a picture on Twitter that showed her nipple.
