The eruption in Holuhraun continuous with the same relentless pace. New lava produced by the eruption, that began August 29th, now covers an area of around 70 square kilometers (27.03 square miles) in the central highlands.
According to the Icelandic Met Office (IMO) 70 earthquakes were detected in the Bárðarbunga area in the past 24 hours. The largest, M5.2, struck at 21.19 (9.19pm) last evening. Since Friday around 200 earthquakes have been recorded in the caldera.
