The new Holuhraun lava field now covers around 72 square km (27.80 sq mi). Due to good weather in the central highlands the ongoing eruption is clearly visible in web cameras today. You can see the new black lava field rising up through the snow that would in normal circumstances completely cover the area at this time of the year.

In the last 24 hours 90 earthquakes have been detected in the Bárðarbunga area according to the Icelandic Met Office. The strongest earthquake, M4.8, struck at Bárðarbunga volcano yesterday evening at 22.27 (10.27pm) on the southern caldera rim.
