A video of Icelandic commentator Guðmundur Benediktsson celebrating Iceland’s win against Austria in the Euro 2016 has made international headlines. Guðmundur told Vísir’s journalist Sunna Kristín Hilmarsdóttir that the widespread attention took him by surprise.
“This was their moment, not mine, but it was wonderful to be part of it. However, I do find the attention a bit too much,” the overly enthusiastic sports commentator explained.
He claims to have regained his voice and is looking forward to Monday’s match against England.
“There’s not a chance in the world that I’m going to predict a loss against England. We don’t know how to loose in this championship and I’d be genuinely surprised if we don’t win against them. I suspect there’ll be plenty of suspense during Monday’s game, which can only mean one thing: We’ll beat England in a penalty shoot-out,” he concluded with a laugh.
