In addition to Iceland and the Czech Republic, Group A features the Netherlands, Turkey, Latvia and Kazakhstan, which have all been beaten by Iceland when the campaign has reached the halfway point. The six teams play each other in ten rounds, home and away.

Iceland stunned the footballing world by beating the Netherlands 3-0 in Reykjavík on 13th  November last year. Before the qualifying campaign kicked off the Netherlands was the undoubted favorite to win the group after finishing third in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Now the Netherlands sits in third place in Group A, five points behind Iceland.
