The Civil Protection in Iceland urges residents in east Iceland to stay indoors this evening while a severer low-pressure system passes over the region. Residents are also advised to secure any loose objects that could cause damage during the storm, and to clear drains of frozen slush to prevent further flooding.
According to the IMO, surface water and river flooding will continue in the east and southeast over the next couple of days. Geithellnaá and Fossá rivers in Berufjörður fjord have flooded their banks and their discharge has grown by a factor of ten within 24 hours.
