One of the most remote villages of Iceland, Borgarfjörður eystri in Eastern Iceland, has been taken over by a film crew. Borgarfjörður eystri only has about 100 inhabitants, so a film crew of 30, even for an Icelandic movie which is not particularly big on an international scale, means a significant addition to the population.
The film crew has rented seven buildings in town, either to use for the movie or to accommodate the film crew. Many locals have also been hired to assist either on the set or as support staff for the movie.
Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson who directs the movie told the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service that he had spent a long time searching for the right location, visiting every village and town in Iceland. “But when I saw Borgarfjörður I knew there was no turning back. This town is both the least accessible in Iceland, and the most beautiful fir shooting movies.”
The movie tells the story of two 12-13 year old boys who are growing up, following them through the many momentous events of those years as they say goodbye to childhood and begin to enter the world of manhood.
