Fashion designer Sigga Maija celebrates the launch of her first collection with a cocktail party in Jör on Thurdsay, December 11. Selected items from the collection will be sold in the boutique located at Laugavegur 89.
Sigga Maija established her brand in December last year and showcased her very first collection at Reykjavík Fashion Festival in March 2014. Her aim is to produce high fashion, high quality clothing and her first collection was inspired by Paris in the 1920‘s, when Surrealism was beginning to surface in the context of modern times.
Originally the company was run by Sigga Maija and her childhood friend, Anna Bóa, but after the latter withdrew from the fashion industry a new team was put together and now consists of Sigga Maija as head designer, Arna Sigrún Haraldsdóttir as the brand’s managing director, stylist Ellen Lofts as the creative director and Aníta Katrín Elvarsdóttir as head of studio.
“Bringing in new people to take care of different aspects means I can focus on designing and have the time to scrutinize every detail,” she says.
A shearling biker jacket by Sigga Maija was featured in i-D magazine’s latest edition. The fashion feature focuses on up-and-coming stylists and photographers, the aforementioned Ellen Lofts being one of them.
“The feed-back we got after the feature has been amazing. People have already ordered a few jackets to be shipped abroad, which is great,” Sigga concludes with a smile.
