The championship will be held during the second weekend of August 2017 in the Reykjavík Conference and Concert Hall, Harpan. The two have both competed in international yo yo champonships, Valdimar coming in fourth in the 2013 European yo yo championship.

Sigurhans tells the local news site visir.is that the other main contender to hold the championship had been Poland. He adds that he expects at least 300 foreign visitors, including 200 participants. The championship lasts three days, with three rounds where participants compete on stage in front of a panel of judges. Participants compete in five different styles, with one and two yo yos. The two plan to hold an Icelandic yo yo championship alongside the world championship in Harpa.

Páll Valdimar demonstrated his yo yo skills when he participated in Iceland Got Talent in 2014.
