Part of the exercises will take place in Þjórsárdalur valley in South Iceland. Local peace and anti-war activists plan to protest the exercises next weekend. Among the protesters will be members of the Left-Green Movement, the party of Katrín Jakobsdóttir, the Prime Minister of Iceland. Katrín told RÚV that she doesn't find the protests uncomfortable, as the party is opposed to Iceland's membership in NATO.

The historian Stefán Pálsson, who is a leading member of the Left Greens, and married to one of the party's MPs told RÚV that he expects party members to organize a Cultural Excursion to Þjórsárdalur to coincide with the military exercises: We were just receiving news of new fascinating archeological discoveries in Þjórsárdalur. The last thing we want is to have soldiers trampling all over the place, disrupting the remains. I wouldn't be surprised if a number of our members wouldn't organize a cultural excursion to Þjórsárdalur next weekend to study the remains and other things.
