Television stars arrive in Reykjavík on board Greenpeace's Arctic Star 1680

Actors Alexander Skarsgard, Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock, and Andy Bichlbaum of Yes Men are on board Greenpeace’s icebreaker, the Arctic Sunrise, which docked in Reykjavík today. The vessel arrived at Arnarstapi, West Iceland, on Monday after sailing from Greenland’s east coast where it investigated seismic blasting conducted by oil company Shell.

According to Greenpeace’s website, boom.greenpeace.org, seismic blasting has been conducted in the remote waters of Northeast Greenland, every summer since 2011. Seismic blasting is the act of shooting incredibly loud sound waves at the seabed in the hope of finding signs of oil and gas. This poses a huge threat to local marine life according to Greenpeace, who has spent a great amount of time recoding and documenting the disturbances caused by seismic blasting.
