Teen girl injured in rollover accident on Ring Road not in critical condition 3297

A teen girl who sustained serious injuries in a rollover accident on the Ring Road west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur village in SE Iceland on Sunday is not in critical conditon. According to a statement from the Police in South Iceland, the girl, who is born in 2003, was thrown out of the vehicle during the rollover, but is not considered to be in critical condition. She was airlifted from the scene of the accident to the National University Hospital in Reykjavík.

The accident took place shortly after noon Sunday. A family of four foreign travelers were in the vehicle, which rolled over and landed off the road. All four people suffered injuries, two suffering only minor injuries, and two others more serious injuries. The girl who was thrown out of the vehicle suffered the most serious injuries in the accident.

The accident took place on the Ring Road west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur village, where the road crosses through Eldhraun lava field, near the bridge over Kúðafljót river. The cause of the accident is not known, but several serious accidents involving head-on-collisions, speeding or rollovers have taken place on the Ring Road between the village Vík and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, especially around Kirkjubæjarklaustur village.
