Strong winds wreaked havoc across northeast and east Iceland yesterday, Wednesday, shattering Neskaupsstaður town’s Christmas tree and forcing pedestrians to seek shelter behind rocks.
According to the National Broadcasting Service, individual gusts of wind reached 37 metres per second (83 mph/133 km per hour).

Today will remain mostly dry, with some bright intervals. Snowfall is expected this evening and tonight. Easterly winds will pick up in the northwest and south tomorrow, Friday, reaching up to 25 metres per second (56 mph/90 km per hour) in the evening.
Saturday: Strong winds will continue in the north, northwest and west (with winds reaching up to 25 metres per second). The north, east and the Westfjords will see further snowfall. Temperatures will drop dramatically on Sunday, going down to -15 degrees Celsius (5 Fahrenheit) in the capital.
