Tonight the northern lights activity above Iceland will be strong according to the Icelandic Met Office's (IMO) Aurora Borealis forecast and luckily the skies will be partially clear in most places around the country.
Although the northern lights season is drawing to an end in Iceland, the aurora zone comes and goes above the country all year round. It’s not the winter cold that brings this great natural phenomenon to life before our eyes but the lack of light during the shorter days. So even during the summer there can be northern lights dancing in the sky, but we just can’t see them because of the bright nights.

The prime time for spotting the northern lights in Iceland is between the months of September and May, before and after the midnight sun loses it grips of the night sky.
