Storm watch: RV blown off the road in West Iceland 8491

Four travelers were unharmed in when an RV the people were driving was blown off the road in West Iceland earlier today. The accident took place on Borgarfjarðarbraut road, one of the major highways in West Iceland. 

A Yellow Weather Alert is in effect for most of Iceland, warning of dangerous winds. Localized winds and wind gusts can reach as much as 40 m/s (89 mph). People have been urged to revise their travel plans as winds of this strength can blow cars right off the road, or cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. The violent winds are especially dangerous to RVs, camper vans and other vehicles that are susceptible to wind.

The IMO has not issued a weather warning for the area around Faxaflói bay in West Iceland, where the accident took place, which only reminds us that we always need to take weather warnings very seriously. 

According to information from the Police in West Iceland the accident took place around noon. Four people were in the vehicle, but none of them was injured in the accident. Other drivers who passed by were able to help the people out of the vehicle. One of these motorists had ladders in his vehicle, which he could use to help the people get out of the RV, making the rescue operation easier.

The IMO has issued new Yellow Weather warnings for South East Iceland for tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, warning of dangerously powerful winds. People traveling in RVs or camper vans should revise or cancel their travel plans in the region.
