Poor travel weather is expected in southern Iceland tomorrow. The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a warning that gale force winds are expected along the South Coast and the central highlands tomorrow. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration further warns that winds could reach 35-40 m/s in some areas early Thursday.

An easterly wind is expected to pick up this evening following a low front approaching from the south. By around 7 a.m. tomorrow morning, the wind could reach 35-40 m/s in squalls in Mýrdalur valley, by Eyjafjöll mountains and the Öræfi region in the southeast.

The storm is expected to reach its climax between 9 and 11 a.m. Though the wind is expected to calm down as the day progresses, considerable wind is still forecast for the remainder of Thursday.

Substantial wind is also expected on Kjalarnes, just north of Reykjavík city, tomorrow morning with squalls reaching 25-30 m/s.
