Storm warning for SW Iceland: Dangerous wind-gusts by Hafnarfjall mountain 5626

A storm warning has been issued for SW Iceland today. The Icelandic Meteorological Office warns that severe gale or storm force winds can be expected until this afternoon. Wind gusts exceeding 35m/s (78 mph) can be expected until this afternoon. The most powerful gusts will occur along steep mountainsides.

The Ring Road along Hafnarfjall mountain in West Iceland can become particularly dangerous during these conditions. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has also issued a warning to drivers to be careful while travelling on the northern shores of Snæfellsnes peninsula. 

The wind will slow down in the afternoon, except on the north coast of Snæfellsnes, where wind speeds could continue to increase during the evening.

Rain or drizzle in many areas, but partly cloudy in the Noth-East with the odd shower. Decreasing precipitation during the evening. Temperatures of 6-17°C (43-63°F), mildest in the north. Rising temperatures tomorrow, reaching 20°C (68°F) in the northeast.
