Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon is located within the area. A storm which hit the same area on Friday March 24 caused significant damage to cars on Breiðamerkursandur beach and by Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. Several cars were hit by rocks thrown by the storm, causing damage and broken windows. Rental car insurance typically does not cover damage caused by wind.
